SUMMARY:International Careers: Planning Your Next Step
DESCRIPTION:
This workshop will help you explore a variety of career options for people interested in international jobs, and provide guidance for choosing a path that fits your values, interests, and experience. We'll discuss five proven strategies to find international employment, as well as options for people who want to do international work based in the US. We'll touch on volunteering as an alternative to paid work, and which programs actually pay you to volunteer. We'll also address the paradox "No one will hire me for an overseas job because I don't have experience. But how can I get experience if no one will hire me?" This workshop will address issues facing people who are considering a career in international as well as those with some international experience.

Our presenter is Zahara Heckscher, co-author of How to Live Your Dream of Volunteering Overseas. Her career as a writer and social justice organizer is grounded in her work overseas: volunteering to plant fruit trees in rural Zambia and helping to build a medical clinic in Nicaragua. She is a contributing editor and columnist on volunteering abroad at Transitions Abroad. Her articles have been published in Community Jobs magazine and in the book Global Backlash: Citizen Initiatives for a Just World Economy.

This workshop will address issues facing people who are considering an international career as well as those with some international experience.

This event is full and registration is closed.
