Interested in serving on a nonprofit board? Join YNPNdc on Thursday, April 11 at 12:00 p.m. for the Lead Now: Board Service & Preparation Luncheon.  

A panel of influential board leaders and advisers will share their insights and tips on nonprofit board service and the things that you need to know when considering these leadership roles.
These dynamic professionals will share best practices regarding:
•       Finding a nonprofit board position
•       Preparing for board service and understanding what skills you can contribute
•       Being a nonprofit board influencer as a young professional
•       Knowing the legal and financial responsibilities of board service

Lunch will be provided for all participants.

About the speakers:

 
Moderator: Anne Wallestad, Interim Chief Executive Officer, BoardSource

Anne Wallestad serves as Interim CEO at BoardSource, a national organization focused on strengthening nonprofit boards and inspiring board service. Anne has been a member of BoardSource’s senior leadership team for four years, and during that time has developed new strategic initiatives that have resulted in dramatic growth in the organization’s membership and impact. 
  Panelist: David Lopez
Managing Partner, Lopez & Co., LLC

David A. Lopez is a certified public accountant licensed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Mr. Lopez has been employed as an accounting professional in the Philadelphia marketplace by national and large, regional public accounting firms over the last 10 years. During this time, Mr. Lopez has served as an auditor, tax advisor, and business management consultant to companies representing multiple industries including the nonprofit sector.

 
  Panelist: Lisa Anne Thompson Taylor
President, Taylor Strategic Partnerships


Lisa Thompson Taylor is has garnered diverse experience in strategic philanthropy, special event planning, and public relations, through 18 years of work with non-profit organizations, associations, corporations, and individuals. She developed her unique perspective and experience in positions as Division Director of Development for the National Kidney Foundation; Director of External Relations for Days End Farm Horse Rescue; and Associate Director of Development and alumni relations for the University of Maryland’s College of Behavioral and Social Sciences. 
  Panelist: Alexis S. Terry
Senior Director of Diversity and Inclusion, ASAE

Alexis Terry is senior director of diversity and inclusion at ASAE (formerly the American Society of Association Executives) in Washington, DC. In this role, Alexis provides leadership across ASAE in the areas of diversity strategy, audience development, and leadership training on how to work with people who are not like you.
  Panelist: Alice Wang
Chair / Co-Founder, The Esperanza Education Fund

Alice Wang is Co-Founder and Chair of the Board of Directors of The Esperanza Education Fund (www.esperanzafund.org), a volunteer-run college scholarship and mentorship program for immigrant youth in the D.C. area. A graduate of Harvard Law School, Alice is a Supervising Attorney in the Appellate Division of the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia, where she has worked since 2005.
