Director of Fundraising

 

The Young Nonprofit Professionals Network of Washington, DC (YNPNdc)’s mission is to elevate, energize, and educate the Washington DC Metro nonprofit community by sharing resources, building skills, and fostering connections. Our Board of Directors leads our community of 30+ volunteers in all aspects of the organization’s programming, communications, membership services, and strategic visioning and implementation.

This is an opportunity to be part of a community of passionate individuals looking to make a difference for peers in the nonprofit space. We are especially eager to bring in new Directors seeking to contribute time and energy (3 hours / week) to our commitment to equity, volunteer coordination, and organizational/Board development.

Directors will have an opportunity to lead a volunteer committee, play an integral role in strategic planning, and serve a local audience of 2,500+ plugged into the YNPNdc network. Board Members are expected to commit to at least a two-year term (July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2026).

In this volunteer role, the Director of Fundraising is responsible for YNPNdc’s individual giving and grant fundraising efforts. The Director also serves as a Co-Chair of the Fundraising Committee along with the Director of Partnerships.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop a fundraising strategy to ensure the financial sustainability and growth of the organization.
  • Lead a talented team of fundraising volunteers to identify, cultivate and solicit potential income sources (corporate, foundation, individual).
  • Develop and maintain relationships with current and prospective donors.
  • Coordinate and lead the writing of grant proposals with Fundraising Committee volunteers and Board Members.
  • Create Fundraising and Development campaign communications including Board, Community, & Volunteer Asks.
  • Implement fundraising-based prospect research and maintain its supporting documents.
  • Responsible for fundraising-related reports to boards and committees.
  • Work with the Director of Recruitment and Retention to interview and onboard Fundraising Committee volunteers.

Preferred Qualifications

As a young professional organization, YNPNdc is committed to providing opportunities for young and/or aspiring nonprofit professionals to develop the skills needed to advance their nonprofit careers. As such, the qualifications below are not required to apply for the position, but applicants should have interest in gaining experience and/or further advancing their knowledge in these areas:

  • Expertise in nonprofit fundraising, development or relationship building efforts
  • Experience leading and managing a team, including working collaboratively across teams
  • Ability to work independently and proactively as part of a team
  • Proficient in critical thinking and problem-solving 
  • Strong writing and editing skills
