Director of Learning Programs

 

The Young Nonprofit Professionals Network of Washington, DC (YNPNdc)’s mission is to elevate, energize, and educate the Washington DC Metro nonprofit community by sharing resources, building skills, and fostering connections. Our Board of Directors leads our community of 30+ volunteers in all aspects of the organization’s programming, communications, membership services, and strategic visioning and implementation.

This is an opportunity to be part of a community of passionate individuals looking to make a difference for peers in the nonprofit space. We are especially eager to bring in new Directors seeking to contribute time and energy (3 hours / week) to our commitment to equity, volunteer coordination, and organizational/Board development.

Directors will have an opportunity to lead a volunteer committee, play an integral role in strategic planning, and serve a local audience of 2,500+ plugged into the YNPNdc network. Board Members are expected to commit to at least a two-year term (July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2026).

One of the pillars of YNPNdc’s mission is to educate the Washington, DC metro nonprofit community by providing opportunities to build skills, share resources, and provide experiential learning opportunities. In this volunteer role, the Director of Learning Programs is responsible for creating and implementing YNPNdc’s overall educational programs strategy, working with a talented team of volunteers on the Programs Committee. This strategy currently includes the quarterly Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Speaker Series and bi-monthly Inner Circles programs.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work with the Director of Networking and Director of Mentorship to build an annual programming plan, maintain a programming budget, and lead a team of volunteers on the Programming Committee.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of YNPNdc learning programming, including the quarterly Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Speaker Series and bi-monthly Inner Circles programs.
  • Ensure all learning events are staffed adequately by volunteers and Board Members.
  • Collaborate with other Committees to identify opportunities to integrate programming into monthly events.
  • Work with the Governance Committee and other Directors to establish and maintain strategic relationships with partner organizations to support the planning and execution of learning programs.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Committee for event marketing.
  • Work with the Director of People & Culture to interview and onboard Programming Committee volunteers.
  • With support from the full board, define and implement methods of evaluating YNPNdc learning programming for impact, reach, participant satisfaction and other measures as needed.

As a young professional organization, YNPNdc is committed to providing opportunities for young and/or aspiring nonprofit professionals to develop the skills needed to advance their nonprofit careers. As such, the qualifications below are not required to apply for the position, but applicants should have interest in gaining experience and/or further advancing their knowledge in these areas:

  • Passion for YNPNdc’s mission and vision.
  • Expertise in event planning and facilitation.
  • Experience leading and managing a team, including working collaboratively across teams.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Strong ability to listen deeply and create space for open conversation and learning.
  • Commitment to personal and professional growth.
